Stereotypes in the German Image of Russia

Hans-Henning Schröder

Deutsche Fassung

Abstract

In German-Russian history, the Germans have had good and bad experiences with their powerful neighbour and have processed these experiences into charitable and sinister images of Russia. Over a century and a half, a trove of stereotypes with positive and negative patterns has taken shape. To this day, the world of politics and the media continue to draw from this trove in accordance with the prevailing political climate.
