Abstract

The countermovement to the forced inclusion of Poland into the Soviet sphere of influence led to an intensive receptiveness for U.S. music. In jazz, as well as other forms of popular music, this expressed the wish of many for political and cultural alternatives. This was initially resisted by the regime, but the music was able to establish itself later as a social vent for expressing Polish orientation towards America.
