Movement in Russia
The Rise of the Middle Class and the Political Consequences
Deutsche Fassung
Abstract
Russia is facing profound social structural changes. In the past ten years, especially in major cities, there has emerged a broad middle class that is pushing for Russia’s modernisation. Because the less wealthy classes adhere to traditional values and depend on state welfare, society is increasingly polarised. The current political system is no longer up this socio-political conflict. It must open up, or it will collapse.
