Homosexuality, Youth Protection and Literature for Youth in Russia
Deutsche Fassung
Abstract
An amendment to Russia’s Youth Protection Act has become a source of confusion on the children’s book market. Talking and writing about “non-traditional sexual relationships” has become a criminal offense. The book Shutovskii Kolpak (The jester’s cap), in which little Grishka swoons for star puppeteer Sem, is likely to arouse suspicion. Author and publisher could be accused of “homosexual propaganda”. Russia’s literary critics are manoeuvring for position.
