Abstract

Communism and Islamism are considered related ideologies. Both are said to share a totalitarian worldview and hostility towards the West. However, such assumptions are unhistorical, and they underestimate the flexibility of ideologies. How the relationship between communism and Islamism, a relationship satirized by the slogan “Workers of the world pray for the Prophet”, actually developed is seen not least of all in their attitude towards the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
