Russia, Ukraine and the Joint Football League

Abstract
Russia is striving for the political and social integration of the post-Soviet space. The creation of a joint football league with Ukraine, which has been discussed since the end of 2012, could serve this end. The state-controlled gas company Gazprom wants to sponsor the joint league with enormous resources. The Ukrainian clubs have so far shown restraint, and, even in Russia, the project is not without controversy. The Union of European Football Associations will have the last word.
