Kulturkampf
The Right Plans a March through the Institutions

Abstract

Poland’s cultural landscape in recent years was largely independent of political influence. That may change now: the party Law and Justice has announced a conservative about-face in culture policy. A lot of energy is to flow into national self-representation abroad. The new national art is to be based on faith, patriotism, and a cult of martyrdom. At the heart of this lies history policy. However, whether right-wing art in Poland has so far lacked only financing and not talent remains doubtful. The planned march through the institutions of culture could founder on resistance from artists and local authorities, in whose hands a large part of cultural institutions lies.
