Power and violence
Passing remarks on basic principles in Belarus

Abstract
Power and violence are political keywords. Max Weber canonised their use in a specific way and defined the state as the holder of a monopoly on violence. Hannah Arendt made a thorough examination of the relationship be-tween power and violence. In the Eastern-central and Eastern European revolutions after 1989 and currently in Belarus, it has been demonstrated that the use of violence is not a sign of power, but is rather quite the contrary: a sign of the loss of power.
