Abstract
In Crimea, around 100 people are being persecuted for political reasons. The majority of them are Crimean Tatars. They are accused of being members of “Hizb-ut-tahrir”, which alongside 14 other Islamist groups has been classified as a terrorist organisation in Russia since 2003. None of the accused or those found guilty have allegedly participated in or planned terrorist attacks. The European Council and the United Nations say that the accusations are based on false claims. Osteuropa is documenting the fate of the political prisoners.
