The Country of Loud Speakers

László Darvasi

Deutsche Fassung

Abstract

The next morning, the land noticed strange developments. On the construction site, on the walls going up, on the rungs of the ladders reaching on high, on the scaffolding, and on the public buildings, numerous loud speakers had been mounted in a single night. These speakers, if even rusted and worn out, buzzed clearly and intelligibly for the most part. They had been located in old sound archives; after the events of 20 years past, they had been gathered up when the country elected a new form of government. Who would have thought that they would someday find use again?
