“History Remains Misunderstood”
Sergei Loznitsa about the War in His Work

Deutsche Fassung

Abstract

In his work, filmmaker Sergei Loznitsa repeatedly turns to the Second World War. His 2005 montage “Blokada”, which is about the siege of Leningrad, stands in stark contrast to the popular documentary aesthetic suited for television. Nonetheless, he is very successful in Russia. In his current film project, Loznitsa addresses the war: a past that cannot go away as long as it is not seriously reflected upon.
