Silk Road 2.0?
Trade and Mobility in the Border Area Kazakhstan – Kyrgyzstan – Xinjiang
Deutsche Fassung
Abstract
Since the opening of the once tightly sealed Sino-Soviet frontier, a cross-border bazaar economy has taken shape in Central Asia. Trade and mobility between Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, on the one hand, and Chinese Xinjiang, on the other hand, have developed rapidly. The expansion of overland routes and the establishment of special economic zones are to facilitate the exchange of people and goods. At the same time, the three neighbouring states are trying to control this dynamic by making changes to the border regime.
